Bio-PRF in Ukraine: Transforming War Wound Care and Regenerative Medicine

Today, we are highlighting a profound international effort that bridges cutting-edge science with humanitarian aid.

One of our core missions has always been to advance patient care by bringing the gold standard of regenerative research into daily clinical practice. Often, that mission extends far beyond the walls of a traditional clinic and into the areas where medical innovation is needed most desperately.

The Science in Action: From the Lab to the Front Lines

When complex trauma and compromised vascularization cause standard treatments to fail, optimized PRF protocols offer a predictable solution.

Take, for example, a newly compiled case study by Dr. Richard Miron and Dr. Ryan Goslin. The regenerative power of Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) was put to the test on a patient suffering from severe tissue necrosis who had been recommended for amputation. By utilizing an optimized protocol, combining Liquid-PRF injections around the periphery with Solid-PRF membranes over the defect, the team achieved complete structural resolution and normal sensation, completely avoiding amputation.

It is this exact, proven regenerative capability the capacity to rapidly revascularize tissue, accelerate complex wound healing, and offer potent antimicrobial effects that drives our ongoing humanitarian efforts.

Since donating a complete setup in July 2024, we have been in close contact with teams on the ground in Ukraine who are using this exact technology to treat severe war trauma.

Bringing Bio-PRF to Ukrainian Hospitals

In 2024, Dr. James M. Waite, DMD, approached Dr. Richard Miron with a critical vision: to introduce advanced PRF protocols to Ukrainian medical institutions to significantly reduce the morbidity and suffering of war victims. We immediately stepped up, donating a complete Bio-PRF system, including specialized horizontal centrifugation equipment, instrument sets, and tubes. Despite intense logistical hurdles, blackouts, and ongoing air strikes, Dr. Waite successfully delivered and deployed these systems to major medical centers in Kyiv.

  • The Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics: Where local surgeons are now being trained on advanced PRF protocols. While the facility had previously utilized basic solid PRF, the introduction of Liquid-PRF opened entirely new doors for joint defects and complex trauma care.

  • NODUS (Neurological and Neurosurgical Rehabilitation Center): Where medical teams (including Drs. Kulyk and Maydannik) are actively implementing these protocols to treat complex wounds and training medics working directly on the front lines.

The raw reality of the trauma being treated on the ground highlights exactly why this intervention is a true game-changer:

"Usually daily I have to manage between 15 to 40 various wounds, stumps, post traumatic oedema, slowly healing bones, post immobilisation and scar tissue related contractures, so additional management of it with prp and prf would be so helpful and game changing." — Dr. Andriy Barkovskiy, UAF Orthopedic Surgeon, Odesa, UA

From massive shrapnel back burns and severe blast injuries to complex orthopedic reconstructions requiring external fixation, the front-line teams are utilizing these protocols to salvage tissue that standard treatments cannot save.

I can envision the day when PRF is standard treatment for war wounds with its ability to promote healing and prevent infection." — Dr. James M. Waite, DMD

Why the Right Technology Matters

As medical professionals, you know that not all autologous platelet concentrates are created equal. The success of PRF in both advanced clinical case studies and extreme trauma environments relies heavily on protocol optimization.

The Bio-PRF system utilizes specialized horizontal centrifugation. Unlike traditional angled centrifuges, horizontal separation ensures a significantly higher concentration of platelets, leukocytes, and growth factors evenly distributed throughout the PRF matrix.

This gradual, sustained release of growth factors over time is what drives superior soft and hard tissue regeneration.

Whether you are treating a severe dermatological condition, managing a complex oral surgery site, or working to save a limb, incorporating peer-reviewed, optimized PRF protocols elevates the predictability of your clinical outcomes.

Thank you for being part of a global community dedicated to pushing the boundaries of medicine.
